Small Problem

category: Plato Computer

Stack of FloppiesWhen I bought my computer, I didn't chose the option to install an 'old-fashioned' 3" disc station. Who even uses those old fashioned plastic things?

That was before I cleaned a hardly-used cabinet, and I discovered about 15 years worth of 3" discs.

Some of these contain homework and essays from school and university. Others have detailed character sheets of some the RPG characters I've played. And the rest (more than half of them) are collections of fanfiction stories, almost all in the genre of P/C and J/C (read my fanfiction at caldosh.com).

What do you think?

Should I buy a 3" disc station?

Should it be external or internal?

It's the difference between €29,95 and €8,95.

Bring them with you on your trip to Lunteren.
Also bring your HD or a pile of dvd-rw media.

I have so new music you'll like.

SATA is not a problem ;)

If you buy one, I say get the external one. That way you don't have to go through the hassle of opening up the system just to install this thing. Plus, then you can take it with you if you need to share a disk with someone else who doesn't have a 3" disk drive!

of course, you could be really ambitious and copy it all to CD and never have to worry again. :)

hmm, the whole idea is to copy them to CD :) *shock!* but I have to be able to access the stuff first ;)!

External is a nice thing! Plug in.. plug out.
Also very handy for lappy's ;)
I don't use them myself anymore but at work we still work with them for some programs.

I have 4 laptops, and none of them have a floppy drive.
One has external, but I still have to find out how to get it to work ;)

I would take them to lunteren so my server can read them, or find someone else with a floppy drive.
Floppy's are obsolete.

I still have an internal but not sure where I've put that one though.
